An IT Service provider has a requirement for an experienced Unix Engineer to assist our client, a growing business based in Lancashire. This is a 3 month requirement, though there may be potential for extra work beyond this. In adherence to current Covid-19 guidelines, this role will be remote based until deemed suitable to return to onsite working.

 

The role will focus on dealing with incidents and requests, general maintenance, and some project work. The project work will include deployment of PKI certificates to server estate, deployment of App Dynamics agents to key business systems and delivery of infrastructure components in line with project scope.

 

Experience required:

 

  • Strong hands on Unix/Linux infrastructure experience
  • Built and configured Unix/Linux infrastructure for projects and BAU
  • Provided Unix/Linux system management and administration, including handling escalations
  • System ownership of the Unix/Linux technology stack using proactive monitoring to ensure system health
  • Able to work within Agile methodology

The successful candidate will be responsible for SCADA design and documentation, and supporting the wider team by resolving any installation and commissioning issues or queries.

This is a really exciting opportunity for an individual with an engineering background, SCADA system design experience and has worked within the Rail industry.

Responsibilities

  • Production of functional design documents, installation design documents, “As Built” records and handover documents for SCADA systems.
  • Take responsibility and resolve all design issues during installation and commissioning.
  • Respond to technical queries and analyse technical requirements and issues.

Requirements

  • Experience within a similar role, specifically with SCADA systems in the Rail industry.
  • Proven experience designing and providing documentation for SCADA systems.
  • Experience of working in a rail environment.
  • An understanding of standards, design procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience of the railway and industry standards and processes.

A leading IT managed service provider are currently looking for an IT Server Engineer to join their end client’s busy IT Engineer team on site in Basingstoke.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate strong experience with Windows Servers, VMWare, HyperV and Storage (NetApp).

Deliverables:

  • Ensure that virtualisation hypervisors are working correctly, and the faults are resolved within KPIs
  • Ensure SAN/NAS system is operating correctly
  • Maintain and operate IT backup and recovery systems
  • Monitor performance of the server infrastructure systems
  • Responsible for the operation of the Windows Servers (2008 – 2019) and various Linux servers
  • Add and configure new infrastructure equipment
  • Act as 3rd line project engineer
  • Assist IT team with 2nd and 3rd line support
  • Create software installations either manually or via group policy  

 

Skills and Experience:
