My client provides IT services to many of the UK largest and most ‘mission critical’ operational systems. As a result of an increase in their client base they are now recruiting for a result orientated Network Design Engineer with experience designing networks for the rail sector

The successful candidate will operate as part of a collaborative team working on an array of diverse projects, they will provide skilled IP Networking, telecommunications and transmission knowledge enabling, you will also have strong transmission design and strong documentation skills.

 

Your deliverables will include:

  • Produce designs in accordance with the Rail Engineering Plan (RPR000001)
  • Reform reviews to verify designs are compliant to contract technical requirements
  • Creation of design packs in accordance with design rules
  • Ensure designs are risk assessed in accordance with CDM obligations
  • Produce Bill of Materials associated with designs to support implementation phases
  • Provide technical support to implementation teams
  • Produce as-built documentation
  • Report against programme to relevant Project Manager
  • Provide handover documentation to management centres
  • Update of Telecoms design platforms
  • Design of green field IP Networks and modifications to existing IP & SDH networks

About the role

The successful candidate be supporting the engineering delivery of the national Network Rail project and will take responsibility for specific engineering activities through to completion.

What will you be doing?         

  • You’ll utilise knowledge and experience of current Network Rail Power SCADA systems
  • You’ll be responsible for the production of product documentation including Functional Design documents, Installation Design documents, ‘As built’ records and handover documents, Work Instructions and Operations and Maintenance Manuals
  • Analysing technical requirements and issues to provide a technical solution in line with the project timescales and constraints
  • You’ll provide technical support to site-based resource to resolve installation & commissioning queries

What do we need from you?

  • Experience of functional design and documentation of Network Rail SCADA systems
  • Good knowledge of Network Rail standards
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate within a project team.
  • Minimum of Network Rail PTS qualification.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to effectively direct others in the implementation of project deliverables.

About the Role

The successful candidate  be the most senior technical resource to resolve highly complex technical design or service issues that cannot be resolved through the normal operations and maintenance procedures and provide leadership for root cause analysis and work closely with the Technical Design Authority and the other technical resources.

You will support the Sales and Presales teams to provide the technical expertise required to close sales opportunities. This will typically involve technical presentations, solution demonstrations, solution design/configuration, proposal and bid response documentation

Main Duties

  • To act as a technical lead within the customer account for both internal and external requirements. 
  • To act as an internal technical escalation point and to be able to mentor/coach internal resources to achieve a higher level of service.
  • To act as a the last line technical lead to resolves technical problems, either design or support related problems. To take a lead where required in root cause analysis to drive issue resolution and limit impact to the customer.
  • To review and report on specific customer incidents and to manage customer expectations. To add value and highlight trends within the call data.  Ensuring escalation and feedback drives a high level of performance.
  • To assist in the build and design of Proof of Concept scenario.
  • To help in the creation of test type documentation and test scenarios.
  • To attend, as required, the following customer facing meetings, support reviews, project based, monthly service reviews, weekly incident reviews.
  • Be an expert in the required Technology for your section. Create and deliver: technical presentations, solution demonstrations, solution design/configuration, and proposal development.

 Key skills

  • Any Specialist level security certification  (CCNP-SEC / JNCIS or IP-SEC)
  • Design and operate experience.
  • In depth knowledge on firewalls, IDS, IPS and Encryption.
  • Experience in NAC, particularly ISE or Aruba ClearPass.
  • Product experience ideally covering Juniper SRX, Cisco ASA.  PaloAlto firewalls, Bluecoat devices
  • Exposure or understanding of SIEM platforms

The successful person chosen for this project, will not only be a well-rounded Engineer with experience of Telco environments and technologies, but specifically strong Infrastructure deployment standards, have relevant qualifications and experience, and excellent stakeholder skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing all infrastructure capacity requests in an effective manner
  • Produce capacity planning/forecast and impact analysis
  • Deliver all build projects and other third-party estates ensuring all projects are completed on time and to budget.
