Our Client is a successful global provider of professional services and technologies within the Government services.They are proud to deliver valuable, long term, operations and maintenance services across the world for its customers within Government Services. Every year, they participate in some of the world’s largest and most challenging projects, and they are now looking to hire a driven and strong Head of Design to work alongside the Design Team.

The Design Team are involved in a national programme delivering new capabilities into the public sector. This post will suit a strongly experienced and ambitious person with strong Business & Technical Design knowledge, who can engage well with Public sector / Government stakeholders and is happy to travel across the UK extensively, whilst thriving in a challenging and demanding role.


  • Engaging well with Government / Public sector stakeholder community to understand individual needs and build consensus on the design
  • Developing and deploying appropriate design processes and procedures
  • Working successfully alongside the design team
  • Building and maintaining an enterprise architecture for Government Services that supports agile and evergreen delivery
  • Developing and deploying appropriate design solutions
  • Transferring knowledge to public sector / Government stakeholders and commanders
  • Developing and deploying appropriate design solutions
  • Facilitating multi-force and agency design activities, with an approach and style that is supported by UK Policing, its policies, procedures, stakeholders and commanders
  • Undertaking overarching assurance of solution designs, project and programme delivery and any design related decisions


  • Commitment and flexibility to work out of hours when necessary
  • Significant travel and the requirement to work away from home on a regular basis
  • The need for agile working from an evolving mix of home, offices and operational base working
  • Considerable UK wide Public sector / Government stakeholder understanding, engagement and management.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading the delivery of enterprise and system design activities, within a complex stakeholder environment with both local and national political implications
  • Demonstrable experience of complex ICT-enabled change programmes, within a high security environment
  • Some demonstrable technical and business design management, including waterfall, agile and hybrid methodologies, to deliver within challenging timescales.
  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable experience with both business and technical design. Demonstrable understanding of, and expertise in, exploiting enterprise architecture: vision, strategy, business and technical services to deliver agile and evergreen solutions
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-year change over multiple organisations and services
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and resources to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • High resilience and commitment to change and service, demonstrated in a government, police or similar environment


  • AGILE Delivery qualifications such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or equivalent
  • DEGREE LEVEL, or equivalent experience, in Communications and Informations System, or related discipline
  • Enterprise Architecture design qualifications, such as TOGAF or equivalent.
  • PRINCE 2: Proven technical/management expertise, including waterfall (PRINCE2 or equivalent) and agile methodologies (SAFe or equivalent), delivering within challenging timescales whilst managing national stakeholders

About the role

The focus of this role will be to provide high quality support to all their sites through the delivery of good customer service and technical support via number of avenues such as telephone, email, remote support and face to face.

The role will include logging and managing support requests on our internal Service Desk system, problem diagnosis, work allocation and resolution while working to Service Level Agreements. About the role

As a key member of the team reporting to the Service Design and Mobilisation Manager, you will be responsible for providing the overall Service Design to the Sales and Bid Teams and subsequent handover to the Projects and Operations teams.

The succesful engage with all areas of the business to define service offerings, and work closely with the Bid, Presales and Sales teams to ensure high quality proposals are submitted, designing credible and deliverable service architecture that is fully costed and appropriate for the customer services required.

Main duties

  • Providing presales support to help develop new opportunities and look for innovative solutions to enhance our service offerings
  • Work with the Operations and Engineering teams to develop a robust and measurable service architecture that can be delivered against new customer requirements, and that is scalable for future opportunities
  • Assist the Sales, Bid, and Commercial teams in developing SLAs and associated terms that are relevant, measurable, and achievable by operations
  • Act as an interface between the Presales team and the Operation teams to build a knowledge base of standard collateral and past performance of services offering
  • Identify, as part of service design, the skills, capabilities and functional requirements within Operations to deliver service quality
  • Be aware of external service standards and promote them where appropriate so that they may affect and better our proposals
