Application Support Engineer – Linux, SQL, HTML

Web Applications, Application Support, Unix, Linux OS, HTML, CSS, SQL

A leading online media outlet had an exciting opening for an experienced Application Support Engineer to join their growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing 2nd and 3rd line support for in-house web applications and ensuring applications always perform optimally with regards to uptime and performance. This will involve analysing and investigating any incidences that arise thoroughly through to root cause. We are looking for strong communicators who can explain highly complex issues to non-technical staff.

To be considered you will need to have:

  • Proven Application Support experience in a web industry
  • Experience using Linux OS, SQL, HTML/CSS
  • Highly skilled in programming and system administration
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

The following skills would be desirable:

  • Crome dev tools/Firebug
  • Load balancers, Stingray, Brocade
  • Akamai, Fastly, CDN Knowledge
  • DNS management
  • Service Desk, Zendesk, JIRA
  • Cloud IaaS, Amazon Web Services, GCS
  • Firewalls
  • Programming, Java, Javascript, Ruby,  Perl, NodeJS
  • Apache httpd, Tomcat
  • Puppet
  • Video transcoding, Video streaming
  • Oracle, MySQL, Redis, Elastic Search
  • Message queue, RabbitMQ

Due to the nature of the role, there is a requirement to be on call out of hours on a rotational basis.
