My client provides IT services to many of the UK largest and most ‘mission critical’ operational systems. As a result of an increase in their client base they are now recruiting for a result orientated Network Design Engineer with experience designing networks for the rail sector

The successful candidate will operate as part of a collaborative team working on an array of diverse projects, they will provide skilled IP Networking, telecommunications and transmission knowledge enabling, you will also have strong transmission design and strong documentation skills.

 

Your deliverables will include:

  • Produce designs in accordance with the Rail Engineering Plan (RPR000001)
  • Reform reviews to verify designs are compliant to contract technical requirements
  • Creation of design packs in accordance with design rules
  • Ensure designs are risk assessed in accordance with CDM obligations
  • Produce Bill of Materials associated with designs to support implementation phases
  • Provide technical support to implementation teams
  • Produce as-built documentation
  • Report against programme to relevant Project Manager
  • Provide handover documentation to management centres
  • Update of Telecoms design platforms
  • Design of green field IP Networks and modifications to existing IP & SDH networks

About the role

The successful candidate be supporting the engineering delivery of the national Network Rail project and will take responsibility for specific engineering activities through to completion.

What will you be doing?         

  • You’ll utilise knowledge and experience of current Network Rail Power SCADA systems
  • You’ll be responsible for the production of product documentation including Functional Design documents, Installation Design documents, ‘As built’ records and handover documents, Work Instructions and Operations and Maintenance Manuals
  • Analysing technical requirements and issues to provide a technical solution in line with the project timescales and constraints
  • You’ll provide technical support to site-based resource to resolve installation & commissioning queries

What do we need from you?

  • Experience of functional design and documentation of Network Rail SCADA systems
  • Good knowledge of Network Rail standards
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate within a project team.
  • Minimum of Network Rail PTS qualification.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to effectively direct others in the implementation of project deliverables.

The successful person will manage all infrastructure capacity requests in an effective manner, and be responsible for the delivery of all build projects and excellent communication with stakeholders.

Key performance indicators for this role are managing the capacity in line with budget, delivering new capacity within SLA; Meeting optimisation targets and customer needs.

The successful person chosen for this project, will not only be a well-rounded Engineer with experience of Telco environments and technologies, but specifically strong Infrastructure deployment standards, have relevant qualifications and experience, and excellent stakeholder skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing all infrastructure capacity requests in an effective manner
  • Produce capacity planning/forecast and impact analysis
  • Deliver all build projects and other third-party estates ensuring all projects are completed on time and to budget.
  • Review third party power design documents
  • Stakeholder management

Key Requirements:

  • Experienced in Infrastructure Delivery within Telco environment
  • Ability to manage stakeholders well
  • Logical approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Extensive knowledge of capacity management of power and cooling infrastructure and telecommunication technology hardware
  • A rounded Engineer with educational qualifications in an electrical/mechanical engineering discipline

Experience in the following would also be advantageous:

We are seeking an experienced Installation Design Engineer who has previous experience to date of producing installation designs for core IP network/transmission equipment. This is not the actual installing role, it is producing the design documents for the installation of equipment.

The type of equipment involved will be Radio (RF, Distributed Antenna Systems), Digital TV, Public Address and Voice Alert systems, Wi-Fi network, Terminal Equipment (desk telephones, wireless APs, CCTV cameras, sound and light Beacons. This means we need an experienced Installation Design Engineer within Telecommunications who understands telecommunications cabling, infrastructure, and products; Someone can produce the required engineering designs, who has the necessary experience and essential skills to carry out the listed responsibilities below;

Skills, Experience, and Ideal Qualifications

  • Demonstrable success in producing detailed designs

  • Technical knowledge of a wide range of telecommunications products and solutions
